Our 3ESO students visited Catalunya Radio station and one of them, Inés, wrote a report on the event:

A day at Catalunya Radio

On Thursday 12th of November the students of 3rd ESO went to Catalunya Radio to find out how the radio works.

We went by bus, taking the H8. We arrived there at 10:15h. First of all, the students ate our breakfast outside the building.

Once we were inside, the first thing we did was go through security control.

Then we entered a reception where a girl explained to them what the visit was going to be about and gave them a brief introduction.

Then we visited the facilities of the radio station, where there were people working. We saw many studios and some people recording a radio program.

The girl explained the characteristics of the studios: We have two windows and double glazing to soundproof the room and the floor is covered with a carpet to improve the sound quality. Some of the rooms have double doors for the same reason.

Once the visit finished, some students had the oportunity to record a radio program like  professionals.

Finally, we returned to the school having spent a great day.

   

Príncep de Girona students display their Halloween style... and their work!

The students of 4th ESO have written some horror stories and we want to share one of them with you.

HALLOWEEN STORY by Luís Ferreiro

  

It all happened many years ago in a remote town in the Catalan mountains. The town was little more than a small square with a church, a park, a prison and a school.

It was the morning of Halloween. When the class was preparing the Halloween decorations and listening to the radio, the weather forecast was interrupted by a piece of news.

The news warned that a murderer had escaped from the local prison and he was very dangerous. The teachers were advised to lock the doors and the windows of the classroom.

The teacher told the class to stay in calm and she went around closing every window. A girl asked to her if she could go to the toilet, but the teacher didn’t want it. The girl insisted and finally the teacher relented. To know that it was the girl coming back, she would do “tap, tap, scratch, scratch”.

After a few minutes a sound was heard on the door. It was: “tap, tap, scratch, scratch”. The teacher opened the door and there she saw a big man with a knife on his left hand and the head of the girl on his right hand.

The teacher ran away and she could escape, but when the police arrived there the man was in the middle of the class and the floor and the walls were covered of blood.

Nowadays the teacher is in a psychiatric centre and she always does: “tap, tap, scratch, scratch”.

Welcome!

A new academic year has started and, with it, a couple of new faces have arrived in the English Department. We are very pleased to be able to give a warm welcome to the two new English teachers, Fatima Trisan and Marta Palau. No doubt they will enjoy working with the students at Príncep de Girona School and they will help them to progress with their English. A big welcome from everybody!

The English Department hopes that everybody has an enjoyable and relaxing summer and we look forward to seeing you all back here in September. We would also like to thank the nearly 1700 visitors that our blog has received so far this year!

The Big Challenge gives prizes away!

Here we are, another Big Challenge and another prize giving ceremony! The 35 students who took part in the competition gathered at the school Hall last Wednesday 17th June to receive their awards for having participated. They all got an attendance certificate and an English magazine. For those who did especially well in the competition there were special diplomas and prizes: posters of London and New York, flags of the UK and the USA, books,... Daniel Santalices got a lovely traveling pillow for having been the fortunate student to win the draw out of all the participants who got more than twenty answers correct. However, this year we would like to congratulate the four students who did best in their levels in comparison with the whole of Spain: María Beltrán, Jordi Heng, David Rancaño and Maria Rancaño. This last student, Maria, also received the 20€ FNAC voucher for having done the best exam. We would like to thank you all for your participation and already look forward to seeing you again at the next competition!

Sinéad says goodbye!

Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were Sinéad's last days at the school. The students didn't want to miss the opportunity to say goodbye to her properly and made their feelings known with cards, presents and all sorts of surprises! Of course, there were small parties in every class and plenty of selfies were taken. We all took the opportunity to say a massive 'thank you' to Sinéad for everything that she has done since she first entered the school last October. And...we all hope to see her at our school next year!

The Big Challenge Competition

Another year and another Big Challenge! Now we are into our sixth year of this popular competition that measures the level of English of students all around Europe. With a turnout of 33 students this year, the event took place in the school hall, where the participants had to demonstrate not only their language skills but also their knowledge of the culture of English-speaking countries.
The results of today's tests will be published on the internet on June 1st, but from tomorrow onwards, each student can find out about his or her performance by typing in the code that they were given today. Later in June, the official prize-giving ceremony will take place. Keep an eye out for the exact date. Good luck to you all!!!

A glorious Saint George's day in images

Finally, the big day arrived. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but it all paid off in the end! The weather was on our side and everybody took their role seriously. But let's start at the beginning with some photos to show the behind the scene preparations:

1ESO performance 

The first year students performed a very short version of one of the most popular stories for children: Little Red Riding Hood. Lia Palmero acted the part of Little Red Riding Hood, Ibrahim El Kassab was the wolf,  Michael Pérez was the father and Nayeli González was the mother. The narrators were Maria Pons and Eric García. 2ESO performance 

Now it was time for the second-year-students’ play: The Wizard of Oz. This was a 10-minute-story about a girl, Dorothy, who finds herself in a strange land after a big storm. There she will meet some peculiar friends: a scarecrow, a tinman and a lion and, with the help of Glinda, the good witch, they will beat the bad witch of the west and then they will go to see the Wizard of Oz. What for? They all need one thing from him....

3ESO and 4ESO sketches

The third and fourth year students’ task was to invent a role play in small groups showing a situation from the real world which they would like to change. Some students decided to base their role play on terrorism, some others on drugs, racism or on eating desorders... On the day we showed three of these sketches, two of them about the bad effects of drugs and another one about racism at school.
